2015 IRU Smart Awards winners honored at the Busworld Kortrijk opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of 2015 Busworld Kortrijk was the venue for this year´s IRU Smart Awards winners to receive their trophies. In addition to the traditional IRU Smart Move Bus Excellence Award, IRU Coach Tourism Innovation Award and the IRU Smart Move City Trophy Award. 2015 also saw the introduction of a new IRU Projects´ Research and Innovation Award to be awarded as a special acknowledgement.

The winners are as follows:

IRU Projects’ Research and Innovation Award 2015 was given to DigitalMatatus by the IRU Global Bus Excellence Jury, for the creation of an innovative open data collaborative system improving substantially the quality of Nairobi’s urban bus transport.

IRU Smart Move Bus Excellence Award 2015 was awarded to the Istanbul’s Metrobüs Bus Rapid Transit System, operated by the Istanbul public transport operator - the Istanbul Electricity, Tramway and Tunnel General Management (İETT), for the efficient implementation of a model Bus Rapid Transit System.

The IRU Coach Tourism Innovation Award 2015 was attributed to the Italian parkyourbus.com web portal, initiated and operated by Ms Daniela Ribera, a professional tour guide with an inspiring dedication to coach tourism, whose example opens up great opportunities for the sector.

The IRU Smart Move City Trophy Award 2015 went to the city of Dresden, in Germany, for its city’s exemplary continuity over the years in implementing a sustainable city policy of welcoming group tourists by coach, indeed one that could serves as a model for other cities in Europe and beyond.

Smart Awards reward best business and public policies as well as industry practices that increase the attractiveness, safety, security, efficiency, environmental and social performance of bus and coach transport. The objective is to promote such achievements and performance worldwide, so that they serve as examples to be emulated by the entire industry, while improving its image.
