Home News German report underlines the economic potential of coach tourism
Group tourism by coach is an important business and job creator in Germany. A study commissioned by Smart Move partner, bdo (the German Bus and Coach Operators’ Association), and the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce shows in figures the significant added value of coach tourism to the national economy.
The gross revenues of coach tourism in Germany in 2015 amount to more than 14 billion euros. Package prices paid by coach tourists for their occasional trips make up half of this revenue. Due to the liberalisation of the long distance coach services in Germany, coach tourism has experienced a significant growth. About 80 % of the 23.2 million long-distance passengers in 2015 were tourists. This segment generated a total revenue of 1.3 billion euros. The positive effect on job creation is not to be neglected either. More than 42,000 jobs derive directly from coach tour operators and their suppliers and one job in occasional coach trips creates 5 more in other companies.
