The Kyzylorda public transport network in Kazakhstan is getting a major Green boost to buy 100 new eco-friendly buses with a USD 18 million investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
23 January 2014 – The Kazakh city of Kyzylorda will be making a Green Move to boost regional development thanks to an investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to improve public transport in the provincial centre.
EBRD will loan up to USD 18.8 million to Kyzylorda city’s municipal public transport companyto buy as many as 100 green buses running on CNG (compressed natural gas), depot workshop equipment and a GPS dispatching system.

Krymbek Kusherbayev, the Provincial Governor of the region, said: “Our citizens deserve better urban transport services. Around one fifth of the city’s public transport fleet will be replaced with new modern comfortable buses to service up to 40% of passengers.
This investment reflects several of the EBRD’s priorities: to support regional development in Kazakhstan outside of major cities, to introduce efficient urban transport management systems and to achieve the green economy goals set by the country.
