Home News New Accessibility Guide pushes for inclusive public transport
|
IRU, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), and the European Disability Forum (EDF) have jointly published a guide to improve service quality and accessibility for public transport services for persons with disabilities. The publication has been released to honour the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December.
The Accessibility Guide is one of a number of initiatives to raise awareness of the barriers to a fully inclusive public transport system and offers advice on how to overcome them. It is aimed at public transport staff who regularly interact with customers and it can be used in the context of disability awareness training.

Rémi Lebeda, who leads IRU’s work on passenger transport in Europe said, “The Accessibility Guide is an excellent tool to improve the quality of service offered to people with disabilities by drivers and operators. We thank EDF and UITP for their cooperation in raising awareness of this important issue and for working with us to provide practical measures to significantly improve the status quo.”
