22 May 2012 – At its meeting of April 26, 2012, the Passenger Transport Council of the IRU adopted a manual for bus and coach transport managers dedicated to passenger rights. The new manual aims to provide information to carriers about their new obligations under the EU Regulation on Passenger Rights that enter into force from 1st March 2013.
IRU Vice-President and President of the Passenger Transport Council Yves Mannaerts said “It is vital that bus and coach operators fully understand and are prepared for the major changes to bus and coach passengers’ rights in advance of the March 2013 implementation date. The new regulations have significant implications for our industry”
The new regulations focus particularly on the rights of passengers during the management of accidents, delays and cancellations, the rights of disabled passengers, and on how passengers are provided with information.
Mr Mannaerts continued “These new regulations provide a solid framework for ensuring that we continue to provide high quality levels of service to all categories of passengers before, during and after their journey. I urge all operators to take note of the new rules and be well prepared for their implementation”
