Cameras installed on bus shelters, making passengers feel safer

wifi bus

The Nexus company, operating in the north-east of England is installing 60 Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in bus shelters to make passengers feel safer while waiting at bus stops and stations. The shelters receiving the first cameras are those with a history of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

To further enhance safety, the company has also increased the number of staff on duty at buses interchanges, and improved the lighting. It also employs a dedicated security co-ordinator who works with the police and bus companies on problem areas and possible solutions.

Costing £100,000, the scheme is supported by Northumbria Police and local community safety partnerships.
